About Dr. East
Dr. Cara East is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Echocardiography. Dr. East has practiced and served patients in the Dallas area since 1995 with privileges at Baylor University Medical Center. In 2010 Dr. East left to pursue her love of research. She rejoined Texas Heart Center where she continues with her research as well as clinic practice.
She has practiced general cardiology since 1990, with a special expertise in prevention and lipid disorders. She leads a clinical research division that coordinates studies for over 20 physicians. The Center has studies in stem cell treatment for heart disease, renal artery nerve ablation for the treatment of hypertension, anti-inflammatory drugs for the prevention of recurrent events after a heart attack, drugs to protect the kidneys in open heart surgeries, drugs to protect the heart and brain in congestive heart failure, drugs to lower cholesterol levels in dialysis patients, and genetic studies of the general population for the National Institutes of Health. She is a professor at the Texas A&M College of Medicine where she teaches medical students and residents. Many college students rotating through the Research Center have gone on to medical school. She lives in Dallas with her husband.
